Diovan is a prescription medicine for high blood pressure called an angiotensin receptor blocker, or ARB. Diovan lowers high blood pressure by blocking a chemical called angiotensin II.
Angiotensin II causes blood vessels to narrow, which increases resistance to blood flow. By blocking this chemical, Diovan relaxes and widens your blood vessels, allowing your blood to flow with less resistance.
If your blood pressure numbers are consistently 140/90 mm Hg or higher, take an important step toward a healthier blood pressure goal, and ask your doctor if Diovan may be right for you.
